Mumbai women clinch the T20 Plate Group Championship

It seemed that nothing could go wrong with Mumbai as they stepped into this New Year with a bang. The lion on their jerseys was roaring loud all through the senior women’s T20 tournament as the Mumbai eves emerged invincible. On Friday, Mumbai thrashed Uttar Pradesh by eight wickets in the final match that was played at Ranchi and won the Plate Group championship title. Mumbai skipper Sunetra Paranjape (2-11), all-rounder Sheral Rozario (2-11) and child prodigy Fatima Jaffer (2-13) ran through Uttar Pradesh’s batting line up and bowled them out for a paltry 64. The match was done and dusted in just 17.2 overs, courtesy Jemimah Rodrigues’ (30*) solid batting. Mumbai have graduated from the Plate Group and will play in the Elite Group next year.
